When Granny was a little girl she always used to love going to stay with her Aunty Jane and Uncle Bill on their farm in the country. There were always lots of jobs to be helping with but not everybody thought it was as much fun as Granny did. In fact, Aunty Jane didn’t think it was fun at all. She thought it was just hard work. She wanted to go on holiday and told Uncle Bill he’d better sort one out quickly.
Uncle Bill had a good idea. If he could sell his sheep to another farmer at the market then he would have enough money to take Aunty Jane on holiday. The sheep were very worried indeed. They didn’t want to be sold to another farmer so they had a meeting to think of a plan.
The next morning everyone in the farmhouse woke up early and put on their best clothes to go to the market. Then they gathered all the sheep into the truck. Finally everyone was ready so they set off. But the sheep had a plan. A very good plan indeed. Every time Uncle Bill went over a bump or round a corner, some of the sheep jumped out of the back of the truck and rolled down the hill to hide. Finally they arrived at the market but the truck was empty!
Poor Granny and Uncle Bill had to spend the whole afternoon looking for the sheep. It was not an easy job. Some of them were hiding in ditches, some of them were hiding behind trees. Some of them were hiding underneath hedges and some of them were even trying to hide behind ach other. It took them ages. Finally, they had found them all but it was so late that the market was closed. The sheep were very happy – until Aunty Jane decided they would just have to come back again tomorrow. So they drove all the way back home again, with the sheep trying to think very hard of a new plan.
