Granny and Grandad live in a very lovely village where everybody is always smiling and happy…until one day when Granny and Grandad’s dog, Smudge, goes missing.

Smudge stole some sausages from the butcher and then tried to hide them in somebody’s garden. The old man and his wife were not very happy to find a big hole in their flowerbed. Smudge ran through the café and pulled the cloth off the table. She chased the postman and even joined in with the singing in church!

Granny and Grandad asked the butcher if he had seen a spotty dog. They had to give him some money for the sausages. Then Grandad had to pay the lady in the café for the broken plates as well. He was running out of money very quickly. They didn’t have enough to pay for the flowers so they pretended they were looking for a big, brown dog instead. The postman looked very cross indeed…and so did the vicar…so this time they pretended to be looking for their cat. Granny and Grandad ran off home as quickly as they could, leaving everyone in the village to moan about Smudge.

When they got home, Smudge was fast asleep in her basket… with two little puppies by her side. Just think what trouble they could cause!
