A Very Special Invitation BACK

One day the postman delivered a very special-looking letter. When Granny opened the envelope, she couldn’t believe her eyes. It was an invitation to a party at Buckingham Palace! When the big day arrived, Grandad put on his very best waistcoat and Granny wore a lovely new dress, a big blue hat, a feather boa and a sparkly handbag.

The palace was incredible. People had come from all over the place and they were all in their very best clothes. There were beautiful paintings, golden statues and the sweetest smelling flowers everywhere they went. As the Queen started chatting to her guests, Granny thought she might fancy a piece of cake but there were so many cakes she didn’t know which one to choose! While Granny was thinking about it, she put her handbag down on the table but she wasn’t looking where she put her bag; it was right on top of a big red button. All of a sudden there was a very loud bang – and lots of fireworks high up in the sky. Everyone clapped and cheered but somebody wasn’t quite as happy as everyone else; the Queen wasn’t happy at all! The fireworks weren’t supposed to go off until midnight. Who had pressed the red button? Everyone turned and looked at Granny…Granny looked at her handbag and realised that it was sitting right on top of the big red button. Oh dear! Grandad offered to do the washing up to say sorry but that didn’t work. The Queen shouted for her guards and everybody shook their heads as Granny and Grandad were thrown out of Buckingham Palace. The guests were disgusted.

Granny was upset because she hadn’t even had a piece of cake but then from out of his pocket Grandad brought out a piece of Granny’s favourite cake! So Granny ate her cake and they watched the rest of the party through the window from the Palace wall.
